Georgia TRS COLA for 2026 and 2027

1.5% every January and July, 3% a year, when prices have not fallen.

How the Georgia TRS COLA works

Georgia TRS reviews the Consumer Price Index every six months. If prices are level or higher than when you retired, your benefit rises 1.5% on January 1 and again on July 1. Your first increase comes at the second January or July after you retire: someone retiring between July and December gets the first raise the next July.

What to expect in 2027

The next adjustment is due January 1, 2027, and every six months after that.

What a COLA is worth over time

On a $3,000 monthly pension, a 2% simple increase adds $60 a month every year, so after 20 years the check is $4,200. A 2% compounded increase reaches about $4,460. A plan with no automatic increase stays at $3,000 unless lawmakers act, and at 3% inflation that check buys about 45% less after 20 years. Our COLA guide compares how other plans handle it.
