How the schedule works
Since 1997, Social Security has spread payments across three Wednesdays to keep phone lines and banks from being swamped on one day. Your birthday decides which Wednesday is yours, and it never changes. A husband or wife collecting on your record is paid on your day, not theirs.
Payments always arrive for the month before. The check you get in March is your February benefit. That matters in the year you claim: if your benefits start in June, the first deposit comes in July.
Months to watch in 2027
Holidays and weekends move a few dates. SSI for May arrives on Friday, April 30, and SSI for August arrives on Friday, July 30, so April and July each have two SSI payments while May and August have none. The 3rd-of-month group is paid early in January (December 31), April (Friday, April 2), July (Friday, July 2) and October (Friday, October 1). December has an extra SSI payment on December 30 for January 2028.
An extra payment in one month is not a bonus. It is next month's money arriving early, so budget it for the month it belongs to.

What day will I get my Social Security check in 2027?
It depends on your birthday. If you were born on the 1st through the 10th, you are paid on the second Wednesday of each month. The 11th through the 20th are paid on the third Wednesday, and the 21st through the 31st on the fourth Wednesday.
Who is paid on the 3rd of the month?
People who started benefits before May 1997, people who get both Social Security and SSI, and people whose Medicare premiums are paid by their state. If the 3rd falls on a weekend or holiday, payment comes the business day before.
When is SSI paid in 2027?
SSI is paid on the 1st of each month. When the 1st falls on a weekend or federal holiday, it comes the business day before, so in some months SSI arrives twice and in others not at all. January 2027 SSI arrives on December 31, 2026, and January 2028 SSI arrives on December 30, 2027.
When does the 3.6% raise show up?
The 2027 cost-of-living increase is in the January 2027 check for Social Security. For SSI, it starts with the payment on December 31, 2026.
What if my payment does not arrive?
Wait three business days after your scheduled date, then call Social Security at 1-800-772-1213. Banks sometimes post deposits a day late.
